I needed to setup a lab to simulate an Air Gap (AG) environment. As part of the Configuration Manager 2012 (CM12) setup you need to download redistributable files and language pack files, but when you have no internet access you need to download these files first in order to complete the CM12 setup. This process can be a bit complicated, so that is why I am sharing these steps with you.
On a computer connected to the internet, mount the ISO / DVD for CM12.
Next, browse to the D:\SMSSETUP\BIN\X64 folder and execute setupdl.exe
Enter the path where you want the files saved. In my case it is C:\Users\garth\Desktop\CM12DL.
Wait for all the prerequisite redistributable files and language packs to download. Keep in mind there are approximately 655 MB of files. Since setupdl.exe will exit without any details, you will need to review the log file (ConfigMgrSetup.log found at the root of C:\) in order to confirm that setupdl.exe finished without errors.
Once the files are downloaded, you can copy them into your AG environment. That’s it. You’re done.
Note:
If you receive the error listed above, make sure that you check to see that both of the manifest cab files (ConfigMgr.LN.Manifest.cab and ConfigMgr.Manifest.cab) are copied over to your AG CM12 server.
